Type 83 Destroyer Concept

This was an interesting project from back in 2012 to create a warship for a computer game. Many computer games feature warships, however, they use existing ships and tend to use American ships for ‘the good guys’ and Russian ships for ‘the bad guys’. The idea behind this project was to design an imaginary warship that could be used in games without making any political implications.

I researched most modern warship designs to look for current themes in terms of equipment, I also looked at various first person shooter maps to organize the superstructure in a way that could feature choke points for fighting. After doing a survey on what people deem 'makes a warship' I exaggerated some components (for example, adding more radars and weapons than would be typical).

This was a very short project with only a couple of weeks to produce, so concepting, model creation and animation was all done at a rapid pace. In testament to the design, when the Royal Navy announced the Type 83 Destroyer my concept was mistakenly used by several news sites as being the official design!
